WealthyRolloTreadway(BusterKeaton)suddenlydecidestoproposetohisneighboracrossthestreet,BetsyO'Brien(KathrynMcGuire),andsendshisservanttobookpassageforahoneymoonseacruisetoHonolulu.WhenBetsyrejectshissuddenofferhowever,hedecidestogoonthetripanyway,boardingwithoutdelaythatnight.Becausethepiernumberispartiallycovered,heendsuponthewrongship,theNavigator,whichBetsy'srichfather(FrederickVroom)hasjustsoldtoasmallcountryatwar. Agentsfortheothersmallnationintheconflictdecidetosettheshipadriftthatsamenight.WhenBetsy'sfatherchecksupontheship,heiscapturedandtiedupbythesaboteurs.Betsyhearshiscryforhelpandboardstheshiptolookforhim,justbeforeitiscutloose.
